Regular Vet Visits

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

  1. In two-three days after you pick up your cat from the breeder, you should bring you cat to the vet with a stool sample. Ask your vet to get a physical exam, a feline retrovirus test, and an intestinal parasite screening for your cat. This vet visit should be done in about half hour, and it confirms that whether your cat is free of parasites and virus. If your cat is found out having any health issue, please also contact the cat's breeder for further discussion. Note: If you originally have another pet or more pets at home, please remember to quarantine your new cat until your cat's vet report is out with a completely healthy result.

  2. Kittens should receive their first *FVRCP vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks of age, followed by three booster shots, once a month. Adult cats should receive a booster once every year or two, according to your vet's recommendation. Note: HarvestRags gives kittens their first FVRCP vaccination and one booster before sending them to their forever homes.

  3. Please wait until kittens reach 6 months of age before giving them their *rabies vaccine. Revaccinate 1 year later. Then give one booster annually or every 3 years, depending on vaccine used.

  4. Please do NOT vaccinate your kittens for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) or FeLV (Felline Leukemia).  These are non-core vaccines, and have negative impact on Ragdoll cat's health. With HarvestRags, the kittens' two-year health guarantee will be void if you vaccinate your kittens for FIP and FeLV. Your veterinarian may recommend them, but please let them know that Ragdoll cats are sensitive to these vaccines.

Note:

1. FVRCP Vaccine - The FVRCP vaccine protects against 3 common and highly contagious viral upper respiratory infections: Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Panleukopenia Virus

2. Rabies Vaccine - A vaccine for rabies, a contagious and uniformly fatal viral disease that is transmissible to humans.
